Using Post Holders For a Fence

When Using Post Holders For a Fence

There are several methods of using post holders for a fence, for example:

  1. By inserting a pressure treated timber post into the ground and cementing in place.
Most common in the 'do it yourself wood fence installation' environment.
  2. By installing Fence Posts Sockets with a spike - where the spike is driven into the soil and the post fits in the socket.
  3. By Installing Fence Posts Sockets with a Base Plate which is attached to the surface such as a concrete path.
  4. By treated timber posts into Fence Posts Sockets that are set in a block of concrete - normally called foundation sockets - where the post is not subject to rotting below ground.
  5. By attaching the initial fence post to an outside wall.

These methods may also be adapted to suit rustic post and rail fence projects.
Whichever method you use, the posts must be vertical and well protected from decay or infestation. Check, check and check again that your posts are upright.

Timber posts are normally 75mm x 75mm or 100mm x 100mm and are generally pressure treated timber using 'Tanalith E' or other such protective treatment.

Before you begin determine which method is best for your installation and the size of timber you will use. Always use pressure treated timber to ensure long lasting fence post protection when using post holders for a fence.
