Repairing a Broken or Loose or Fence Post

Loose Fence Post Repair

When you need to perform a 'loose fence post repair' the follow ideas may be of some help:

Loose Fence Post Repair - Method 1

If you have inserted a pressure treated timber post into the ground and compacted the soil around it and the post has loosened.

Compact the soil around the post once again. If this does not work, support the fence either side of the post and dig a hole about twice the diameter of the post, around the post itself. You must now decide whether to simply compact gravel into the hole to support the post or use one of the proprietary post concrete mixes to secure the post. Whichever you choose compact the mix tightly into the hole around the post and allow to dry if necessary.

Loose Fence Post Repair - Method 2

If you installed fence posts sockets with a spike and the spike has worked loose in the ground.

Compact the soil around the spike once again. If this does not work, support the fence either side of the post, as before and dig a hole about twice the diameter of the post, around the spike itself. Dig down until you are about 30cm below the tip of the spike. Prepare one of the proprietary' post concrete mixes' and pour into the hole until the level reaches the bottom of the post support at the top of the spike. As before, compact the mix tightly into the hole around the spike and allow to dry.

Loose Fence Post Repair - Method 3

If the base plate or the foundation socket becomes loose or rusted through.

By installing fence posts sockets with a base plate or a foundation socket the chances of a post becoming loose is small. If the base plate or the foundation socket becomes loose or rusted through, simply chisel away the cement around the fitting and replace them. Lay a fresh cement mix around the new foundation socket or prepare a new base for the base plate itself. Drill and secure as required.

Loose Fence Post Repair - Method 4

If you have a broken fence post you simply need to release the post from the panels or rails either side and insert the new post into the socket, again using pressure treated posts that provide long lasting fence post protection.
