How To Install Fence Posts Sockets

Driving Fence Posts Sockets

Metal Fence Posts Sockets also known as fence post holders are supplied in many different sizes to suit different height fences. 600mm fence posts sockets for example will provide a good foundation for fences up to 1.2m high, whereas a 750mm socket can be used for fences upto 1.8m high.

If you are using fence posts sockets for a fence, fence post pile drivers or a manual fence post driver can be used to drive the fence post socket into the ground.

When driving the fence post socket into the ground it is necessary to use a 'post driving blank' to protect the socket from damage. You can use a piece of old post, if you choose.
Whilst hammering the socket into the ground it is vital that you check that it is upright on both sides of the socket. Use a spirit level for this task.

Remember, if the fence post socket is not upright, the post (when fitted into the socket) will exaggerate the problem. Drive the socket full into the ground leaving only the square socket above ground.

You can now insert a fence post (preferably a pressure treated post) into the socket and secure the base of the post according to the particular manufacturers instructions.

Again checking each post with a spirit level as you go.
If you are fitting wood panels between your fence posts, attach a panel to the first post in order to locate the position of the next socket. You may need to provide temporary support under each panel whilst you are driving your next fence post sockets.

Note: Having the panel physically in place helps to maintain your posts in an upright position.
